Canadian ultra low-cost carrier Swoop Airlines released its full summer schedule, Tuesday, including several new routes and new destinations.
Domestically, Swoop is adding service to Kelowna, British Columbia, and the big winner, London, Ontario. Swoop will fly 20 flights a week from London, including daily flights to Edmonton and Abbotsford, B.C. It is also adding service from London to Halifax. These are all new routes in the Canadian market.
“Today’s announcement is wonderful news for London and our region of Ontario,” said Mike Seabrook, CEO of London International Airport in a statement. “We’re focused on being the “Easy and Comfortable” airport and Swoop’s new service is a perfect fit. Our passengers will be able to get to more destinations with direct flights the easy and comfortable way.”
Swoop is also upping the ante in its battle with Flair Airlines, taking on its ultra low-cost rival at its Edmonton hub.
Swoop will fly 56 flights a week from Edmonton this summer. In addition to daily service to London, Swoop is adding new routes to Oakland, California – the first time Oakland has been served from Canada – and weekly service to Orlando, Florida. Swoop is taking over the flight from parent airline, Wesjet. These flights are in addition to previously announced service to Hamilton, Abbotsford, Winnipeg and Las Vegas.
“Swoop’s growing list of Canadian and US routes from EIA is an investment in the Edmonton Metropolitan Region,” said Tom Ruth, President and CEO of Edmonton International Airport. “Popular destinations and low fares are creating exceptional travel options while supporting tourism and business growth in our region.”
Swoop has a fleet of six Boeing 737-800 aircraft, and will grow to 10 planes by the end of 2019.
