Westjet low-cost subsidiary Swoop is adding three destinations in Atlantic Canada this summer, spreading its wings to Newfoundland, Prince Edward Island, and New Brunswick – the airline’s first foray into the markets.

“Our growth in Eastern Canada is an exciting milestone for Swoop, proving our ability to develop our network domestically, while also adding to our U.S. and international destinations,” said Swoop President Steven Greenway in a statement.

The growth comes as a result of the airline receiving its 10th Boeing 737-800NG in June.

St. John’s will be served daily from June to October 2020, while Charlottetown will receive three flights a week, and Moncton four, all from Swoop’s Eastern hub in Hamilton.

“This announcement by Swoop is very exciting as these new routes into the Maritimes will allow customers from Hamilton to explore even more destinations from coast to coast within Canada,” said Cathie Puckering, President & CEO, John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport.

Swoop flies to 20 destinations, with its largest bases in Edmonton and Hamilton. The airline has avoided flying to parent company Westjet’s largest hubs in Calgary, Toronto, and Vancouver. Swoop offers fewer frills and unbundled fares where passengers pay for all the extras, including a printed boarding pass.

The airline also added service to San Diego, Victoria, and Kamloops, British Columbia for 2020.
