Canada recorded more than 450 runway incursions in 2018, similar to the number in 2017. An incursion happens when a vehicle, person or plane enters a protected area around runways without permission.

While most incursions happen at small airports with student pilots, a number of hubs report a significant number of incursions. In each of the past two years, 21 of those were considered serious enough to warrant concern.
