Unperturbed by talks with Air Canada over its acquisition, Air Transat revealed details of its winter 2019-20 flying, showing major increases in Vancouver, along with more flights out of Quebec and Ontario.

The airline said Thursday its new Airbus A321LR aircraft will be deployed to full use in the winter schedule, with a new focus on Vancouver. Transat will offer flights to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, along with new flights to San Jose and Liberia, Costa Rica, and the reintroduction of flights to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic from the West Coast.

“Bringing our Airbus A321neoLRs into our fleet in winter 2019–2020 will give us greater flexibility, which will help us reinforce our leadership in Quebec, strengthen our presence in Ontario and return in force in the Canadian West,” says Annick Guérard, Chief Operating Officer, Transat.

Transat has ordered 15 A321neo as it transitions to an all-Airbus fleet.

Transat is also expanding its winter programs in Eastern Canada, being the only airline offering flights from Montreal to New Orleans, and a new focus on Fort Lauderdale. In addition to twice-weekly flights from Vancouver, Transat will offer five flights every week from Quebec City, and additional frequencies from Montreal.

“We’re thrilled with Air Transat’s decision to offer more flights to France and to the sun destinations beloved by so many in Québec City,” said Stéphane Poirier, President and CEO of Quebec City International. In all, Quebec City will see one additional flight to Florida every week, an additional flight to Cuba, and seasonal flights to Paris will be extended by two months.

Southern Ontario gets a boost to the Dominican Republic in Transat’s winter schedule, with new flights from London to Puerto Plata and additional service from Hamilton to Punta Cana. It is also adding service between Hamilton and Santa Clara, Cuba.

Transat is planning additional frequencies to Mexico from Calgary, Ontario and Quebec, and converting flights from Montreal to Madrid and Malaga, Spain to year-round. The carrier is also extending flights to Europe from Toronto.

Finally, Transat plans to continue transcontinental domestic flights, with seven flights a week between Vancouver and Toronto, and three between Vancouver and Montreal. The domestic services will be times to connect with European flights.

Transat is in exclusive talks with Air Canada negotiating a buyout. The two companies have given themselves until the end of the month to come to final terms.
