First Air Canada A220 rolls off the paint line

Airbus has unveiled the first Airbus A220 painted in Air Canada colours at the company’s hangar in Mirabel, Quebec.

The Canadian-designed and built aircraft is due for delivery in the coming months. Air Canada will be the only Canadian airline to fly the type. It will enter service in 2020.

“Now that the aircraft is decked out in Air Canada’s livery,” said Airbus in a release, “it has moved to pre-flight activities in the A220 flight line hangar in Mirabel, before taking off for its first flight later this fall.”



Air Canada plans to deploy the plane on existing routes from Toronto and Montreal to Ottawa, Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton and New York – La Guardia before adding new services in the spring.

Air Canada says it will use the A220 to add flights between Toronto and San Jose, California and Montreal and Seattle, bolstering its strategy us funnelling traffic from the United States through its major hubs and onto European destinations.

Airbus took over production of the former C-Series aircraft when it bought the production line from Bombardier in 2017.

Air Canada will configure is A220-300s with 137 seats in business and economy class.
