Winnipeg International Airport released its quarterly results, Wednesday, showing almost eight per cent more passengers in the first three months of the year than during the same period last year.

Growth was strongest on flights to cities across Canada, with almost 10 per cent more passengers boarding flights. In March, 224,056 people travelled to and from points within the country; another 46,391 travelled to and from the United States (down marginally from last year), and 39,619 people were recorded flying to overseas destinations.

The authority opened a new $400-million terminal last year.

“We are pleased that collaboration with our carrier partners resulted in the provision of additional capacity in this market. This clearly contributed to passenger growth and financial results that were positive,” said Barry Rempel, President & CEO of Winnipeg Airports Authority.

“We remain focused on growth opportunities, continuing to develop the airport campus and to be an economic engine for the community we serve.”

The authority reported revenues of $23.5 million in the first quarter, up almost $3 million from the year before.
