Officials in Edmonton announced the cancellation of their airshow next week, after the Alberta capital suffered one of the wettest Julys in two decades.
The Edmonton show was to take place August 17 and 18 at Villeneuve airport, north-east of the city. Demonstrations by the Snowbirds and the CF-18 jet fighter were planned.
“We are sad to announce the 2019 Edmonton Airshow is officially canceled [sic],” read a Twitter post from show organizers.
“The persistent wet weather has saturated the fields and the festival site, causing significant operational and safety concerns.”

For the first time this year, organizers in Edmonton planned an aviation career fair to coincide with the air show. Officials at the non-profit society said tickets could be refunded or exchanged for 2020.
Meanwhile, rehearsals were held in Abbotsford, British Columbia for this weekend’s airshow, starting with a twilight show Friday evening.
“This year’s airshow ‘Thunder over the valley’ features our Canadian Snowbirds, as well as the return of the United States Air Force Thunderbirds,” said Abbotsford mayor Henry Braun, noting the show is among the top-10 in the world.
Braun also hailed “so many other thrilling performances that share the national and international legacy of aerospace.”
Abbotsford International Airport is on pace to break the one million passenger mark for the first time later this year.
On top of the aerobatic performances, the static display features an array of military aircraft, from a Fleet Flinch from the Canadian Museum of Flight, to a C-5 Super Galaxy of the United States Air Force.
