KLM increases Calgary service

Calgary International Airport announced, Wednesday, that Dutch airline KLM would increase service to the Alberta city by almost a quarter over last summer.

KLM will start offering daily service to Amsterdam aboard an A330 aircraft starting June 6, compared to service five times a week last summer.

Airport officials say the extra flights will increase the city’s role as an international gateway.

We are thrilled that KLM will be increasing frequency of their non-stop service to Amsterdam out of YYC,” said Stephan Poirier, Vice-President and Chief Commercial Officer for the Calgary Airport Authority.

“Amsterdam is an important hub for business and leisure travelers and offers passengers extensive connections to the globe. KLM’s daily service expands our already extensive network of destinations, making YYC the gateway of choice for passengers.”

The new KLM flights will partially offset a void left when Lufthansa announced its decision to pull out of the Calgary market, substantially reducing capacity to European hubs.
