Air Canada is facing more labour unrest, after members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers rejected a tentative contract agreement.

In the process, members gave the union a strike mandate, though it’s not clear if a strike is on the horizon.

The machinists are not the first union to reject a tentative agreement. In September, flight attendants twice rejected a tentative agreement, only to have the second negotiated settlement imposed on them two months later.

Air Canada pilots have also given their union a strong strike mandate.

The airline insists it’s business-as-usual, and that passengers can continue booking flights.

IAMAW represents about 8,600 mechanics, baggage handlers, cargo agents and clerical staff at Air Canada.
